[Updated April 2016]

This site - 100 Quest - began as a way to chronicle the pursuit of a personal long-term running goal:
  • Complete 100 events of marathon distance (26.2 miles) or greater
As my running career developed and progressed I've added some additional goals (in no particular order):
  • Complete a 100 mile ultra-marathon
  • Complete at least one of every current marathon and ultra race (road and trail) in Indiana
  • Complete an Ironman distance triathlon (2.4m swim, 112m bike, 26.2m run - 140.6m total)
I have a couple of other goals in mind... but I'm not ready to officially declare them yet.  :)

Regarding my progress:
  • I am well on my way to completing my original goal - having finished almost 60 races of marathon distance or greater.
  • I'm thrilled to say that I completed my goal to run a 100 mile ultra in January of 2015 when I crossed the finish line the Pistol Ultra 100 with a time of 22 hours and 34 minutes!  This was certainly one of my proudest personal achievements.  I think there will be other 100 mile attempts in my future, including a trail race.
  • I have completed about 2/3 of the marathon and ultra races in Indiana.  Sometimes new races are created while others shut down and cease to exist - so this is a bit of a moving target.
  • I have made some progress towards the goal of completing an Ironman triathlon by: learning to swim,  getting a decent bike, completing a few shorter distance triathlons (including a 70.3m "half-iron") , and completing "a century" ride (100 miles).
Regarding this site, publicly tracking and recording my progress towards these goals is fun for me.  But more importantly, doing so helps me to stay on track and accountable.  The idea of declaring my objectives to the world (or at least my little corner of it) and knowing that a few of my friends may be following along from time to time is a huge motivating force.

I've been told by many friends and acquaintances that my running and related health endeavors have been an inspiration to them.  So, I hope my story will encourage others to become more active and disciplined regarding their own health and fitness journey.  Enjoy!
